Living in Alberta, you likely make the most of your precious summer weekends. With that said, you don’t want to spend too much time finding and then driving to the perfect camping spot. Just west of Edmonton has a plethora of camping locations so you can maximize your relaxation time. With most of these spots being less than an hour outside city limits, we’re talking about the ‘leave Friday night and stay until late Sunday afternoon’ kind of relaxing. Here are some of our picks for finding an amazing weekend camping spot just outside of Edmonton:

Diamond Grove RV Campground

Conveniently located on the edge of Spruce Grove, Diamond Grove is a prime option. It’s luxury camping done right; surrounded by plenty of amenities and offering full-sized lots with all of the fixings including a picnic table, electrical hookups and a fire pit. As a bonus, they offer luxurious executive washrooms. It’s the spa break you’ve always dreamed of while camping. The executive washrooms feature a jetted spa tub, fluffy towels, an electric fireplace, a beautiful shower and granite countertops. They are rented in hour and a half increments and completely private. On-site convenience store, laundromat, and nearby dog park are other great perks Diamond Grove RV Campground has to offer.

Wabamun Lake Provincial Park

Wabamun Lake Provincial Park offers 275 treed sites with both serviced and un-serviced options available. It’s a premiere summer playground, thanks to its location. A beautiful large beach, fishing, swimming and excellent hiking and biking trails await!

A popular day trip destination, Wabamun makes for an even greater weekend getaway.

Stony Plain Lions RV Campground

Stony Plain Lions RV Campground has served the community since 1989. It’s camping with a cause – the campground generates funds that are put towards community youth programs, senior lodges and more. If you haven’t been, you’ll quickly become a fan of the scenery and its proximity to town. While camping, day trips can be made to nearby attractions such as the Multicultural Heritage Centre and the Stony Plain mural collection.

Mink Lake Resorts & Campground

Mink Lake RV Park and Campground is a year-round relaxation destination. Summer enjoyment? That’s a given – Mink Lake offers both powered and non-powered sites and all the summer fun activities you can think of: swimming, fishing, beaching and more.  Winter? You can have that too thanks to their winter programs.

Pembina Provincial Campground

Much like Wabamun Lake Provincial Park, Pembina Provincial Park is a popular spot for weekend memory making. Want to float down the river in a tube? That could happen. Thinking about hiking through the park? That could happen too. The best part – with over 130 sites both open and treed, there’s plenty of room for everyone to have a picture-perfect weekend at Pembina.

Entwistle RV Campground

Entwistle RV Campground is ideal for group camping trips – weddings, family reunions, and giant friend get-togethers. But with that said, if you’re just a party of one – Entwistle offers ‘Make A Friend’ sites where you share a fire pit. It’s the perfect chance to make new friends while camping.

Spring Lake RV Resort

A weekend at Spring Lake is about escape. Whether you’re looking to escape the blistering city heat or seeking to indulge in some great times with great company, one thing’s certain; Spring Lake is an excellent escape spot for the RV enthusiast. It’s big rig friendly, they offer pull-through sites, there are plenty of amenities (like beach volleyball, horseshoes, a private beach, and more) and the lake is sand bottom and spring fed. It’s the classic weekend getaway spot.

Camp ‘n Class

Fun fact: Camp ‘n Class in Stony Plain offers cable TV and Wi-Fi. You won’t miss the big game, your favourite TV show or any Instagram notifications while camping here. After all, there are times where you just want to kick back in relative peace, but you don’t want to go too far. Case in point – this fully serviced RV Park is within minutes of Stony Plain’s boutique shopping locations and restaurants. In case you needed to get a quick bite to eat or wanted to look for some new outfits after you spent a zesty day kicking back in the sun. Sometimes it pays to be close.

We hope you’re able to make some awesome decisions when it comes to choosing campgrounds and parks to explore just west of Edmonton.
